Ethics & AI Transparency
Effective Date: January 1, 2026
At IdaMil™ LLC, we believe that AI in the legal profession must be held to the highest ethical standards. This page outlines our commitments regarding the responsible use of artificial intelligence within the Aequis™ platform.
Our Commitment to Ethical AI
Aequis uses AI as an assistive tool to enhance — never replace — the professional judgment of licensed attorneys. Every AI feature in Aequis is designed with human oversight as a core requirement. AI does not make decisions, file documents, or communicate with clients. It assists attorneys by surfacing relevant research, reviewing documents for potential issues, and suggesting content for review.
AI Transparency
We are transparent about what AI does and does not do within Aequis. AI-powered features include case law research assistance, document review and issue spotting, draft content suggestions for pleadings and correspondence, and pattern recognition across case data. AI is clearly labeled throughout the platform. Any output generated or influenced by AI is marked as such, so attorneys always know when they are reviewing AI-assisted content.
Attorney Responsibility
All AI-generated output must be reviewed, verified, and approved by a licensed attorney before use in any legal proceeding, client communication, or filing. Attorneys remain solely responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of all work product. This aligns with ABA Model Rule 1.1 (Competence), which requires lawyers to stay abreast of technology while maintaining professional standards, and ABA Model Rule 5.3, which addresses responsibilities regarding nonlawyer assistance, including AI tools.
Data Ethics
We do not use client case data to train AI models. Your data is used exclusively to deliver the service to your firm. Complete data isolation is maintained between firms — no firm can access, view, or influence another firm's data or AI outputs. All data processing complies with attorney-client privilege protections and applicable confidentiality obligations.
Bias Mitigation
We actively monitor AI outputs for bias, which is especially critical in family law where decisions affect custody, support, and property division. Our approach includes regular audits of AI outputs across demographic categories, ongoing refinement of AI prompts and guardrails to reduce bias, transparent reporting of any identified bias patterns, and a feedback mechanism for attorneys to flag potentially biased outputs for review.
Family Law Sensitivity
Family law matters often involve vulnerable individuals and sensitive circumstances. Aequis is built with heightened sensitivity for domestic violence cases, including safety screening protocols and restricted access features. Child welfare considerations are embedded in our AI guardrails, ensuring outputs prioritize the best interest of the child. Cultural sensitivity and awareness of diverse family structures are reflected in our platform's language, templates, and AI behavior.
Professional Standards
Aequis is designed to support compliance with state bar rules and legal ethics guidelines across all 50 states. We monitor developments in legal ethics related to AI and technology, and we update our platform accordingly. We encourage all users to consult their state bar's specific guidance on the use of AI in legal practice.
Continuous Improvement
We conduct regular internal audits of our AI systems, maintain a dedicated ethics review process for new AI features, actively incorporate feedback from practicing attorneys, and stay current with evolving standards for AI in the legal profession. Our commitment to ethical AI is ongoing, not a one-time effort.
Reporting Concerns
If you encounter any ethical concerns, biased outputs, or issues with AI behavior in Aequis, please contact us immediately at customer.support@idamil.com. We take every report seriously and will investigate promptly.
